Mexico City is finally being recognized as a World-Class Metropolis, its about time!

Charming, cosmopolitan, and grand!

Hey there, Mexico City is finally getting the recognition it deserves as a world-class metropolis. It's about time, don't you think?

Let me paint a picture for you: Mexico City, or CDMX (“seh-deh-eh/me-equis”, short for Ciudad de México), is a sprawling urban paradise bursting with life, culture, and history. With a population of over 21 million people, it's one of the largest cities in the world. But don't let its size intimidate you because navigating this vibrant city is easier than you might imagine.

After the pandemic, Mexico City has seen a surge in visitors, and it's no wonder why. This cosmopolitan destination offers a little something for everyone. Whether you're a foodie, an architecture enthusiast, a culture vulture, or simply looking for a good time, Mexico City has got you covered.

Let's start with the food, because trust me, you're in for a treat. Mexican cuisine is renowned worldwide, and for good reason. In fact, it has earned UNESCO World Heritage status, alongside French cuisine as one of the only two culinary traditions with such recognition. From street tacos that will make your taste buds dance to elegant gourmet experiences that will tantalize your senses, Mexico City boasts countless amazing restaurants representing various cuisine types and price ranges. Rivaling major dining cities like NYC, London, Paris, or Tokyo. Prepare to embark on a culinary adventure that will leave you craving for more.

One of the best things about Mexico City is its walkability. Yes, you read that right. Despite its sprawling nature, many areas are easily explored on foot. So put on some comfy shoes and get ready to stroll through the city's vibrant neighborhoods. As you wander the streets, you'll stumble upon beautiful architecture that will make you reach for your camera. Be sure to explore the Roma and Hipodromo neighborhoods, where stunning buildings will transport you to a different era.

If walking isn't your thing, fear not! Mexico City has a great bikeshare system, Ecobici, and an abundance of bike lanes, making it an eco-friendly and efficient way to get around. Hop on a bike and feel the wind in your hair as you cruise through the city streets, taking in the sights and sounds.

And let's not forget about the excellent public transit options. The CDMX Metro, BRT (Bus Rapid Transit), light rail, aerial lifts (gondolas), and dedicated bus-only lanes on almost every road ensuring that getting around the city is a breeze and traffic free. Need a late night ride? Don't worry, inexpensive Ubers are readily available.

When it's time to venture beyond the city limits, Mexico City has you covered. The city boasts great regional connections with intercity buses and two major airports that will whisk you away to domestic and international destinations. And here's something exciting: by the end of 2023 or early 2024, a new train will connect Mexico City to the nearby city of Toluca. That's not all – additional regional rail lines are planned to open every year, with the ultimate goal of a nationwide electric medium-speed rail network completed before 2050. Talk about staying ahead of the game!

Now let's talk about the heart and soul of Mexico City – its vibrant culture. The locals are known for their friendliness and gregarious nature, which adds a special warmth to your experience. Immerse yourself in the city's rich traditions, lively festivals, and captivating arts scene, and numerous museums. Take a boat ride in Xochimilco, where you can float along ancient canals, surrounded by colorful trajineras (traditional Mexica canal boats), and enjoy the festive atmosphere. And don't forget to try pulque, a traditional drink that's sure to add a touch of authenticity to your adventures.

Speaking of authenticity, Mexico City is a melting pot of music and dance. Whether you're into jazz, salsa, banda, cumbia, mariachi, or electronic beats, this city has it all. From cozy jazz clubs to energetic salsa venues, you'll find yourself tapping your feet and moving to the rhythms. And when the sun goes down, the nightclubs come alive, offering a diverse array of musical genres to keep you dancing until the early hours.

Now, it wouldn't be fair to paint a picture-perfect image without acknowledging some challenges. Mexico City faces a housing crisis, primarily due to strict height limits of no more than 12 stories without lengthy and expensive exemptions. Additionally, over-tourism is an issue, as with almost all major destinations worldwide. My hope is that the citizens and government of Mexico can find solutions to these issues and embrace the newfound international recognition of their capital as one of the best cities in the world and the best city in North America.

So there you have it, folks! Mexico City, a world-class metropolis that has it all. From its rich history and architectural wonders to its incredible cuisine, vibrant culture, and dynamic music scene, this city will capture your heart and leave you yearning for more. Pack your bags, grab your passport, and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime in the enchanting embrace of Mexico City.
